All Songs Considered recently got a hate e-mail about its choices––the subject was "All Indie Rock Considered?"––and instead of just pretending this never happened, Bob Boilen took to the blog to explain the staff's process. The post isn't exactly satisfying, but some of the suggestions in the comments section are. It appears from the comments that many of ASC's fans are satisfied and refreshed by what they hear, implying that to those fans, ASC succeeds as a discovery engine. Disgruntled listeners who don't believe that both Iron & Wine and M.I.A. should count as "indie rock" may just have to go forth and explore on their own.
